Five Yin Yoga Classes for Adults
Join Michelle James for five Yin Yoga practices. A Yin practice is slower-paced, mainly floor-based, and the postures are held for longer periods of time, inviting stillness of body and mind, and gently stimulating the connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, fascia). This encourages increased space and flexibility in the body and mind. By allowing gravity to do the work we are able to approach the edge of sensation while cultivating kindness and curiosity through a non-striving approach. Each of the five seasons correlates to an element and yin/yang meridians.
Spring Class: This 60-minute practice focuses on the season of Spring, targeting the liver and gall bladder meridians which support the body’s natural digestive and detoxification functions.
Element - Wood
Summer Class: This 60-minute practice focuses on the season of Summer, targeting the heart and small intestine meridians which support circulation and digestion.
Element - Fire
Late Summer Class: This 75-minute practice focuses on the season of Late Summer, targeting the spleen and stomach meridians which support digestion and distribution of nourishment and hydration.
Element - Earth
Autumn Class: This 60-minute practice focuses on the season of Autumn, targeting the lungs and large intestines which supports respiration and water flow.
Element - Metal
Winter Class: This 60-minute practice focuses on the season of Winter, targeting the kidney and bladder meridians which support the removal of waste.

Michelle James, RYT-200, RCYT has a degree and background in early childhood education. In 2012, after 20+ years working with children and families in various settings, she discovered the benefits and joys of sharing yoga with children. This marked the beginning of her yoga journey. She is an experienced, certified ChildLight Instructor sharing developmentally-appropriate, playful and engaging yoga and mindfulness education at the ChildLight studio where she teaches Peace Baby, Tots, Little Family, GirlPowerment and Mother Daughter Retreats and leads the summer camp and yoga party program. Michelle also joined the office staff as Studio Coordinator in the fall of 2016! She is a student at heart, always eager to continue her own education through experience and discoveries. Michelle completed her 200hr in January 2019 with Yoga Muse School of Yoga at Bridge Studio, So Portland, ME. Her training is grounded in a trauma informed, empowerment approach to Hatha/Raja Yoga. She now looks forward to sharing all that yoga has to offer, both on and off the mat, with students of all ages. Off the mat Michelle enjoys crocheting, softball, spending time in nature - kayaking, fishing, hiking and most of all laughing with her husband, three grown children and two precious grandchildren.
